Phirst and Phinal thoughts:
How bad have the Philadelphia Phillies been since I last posted about their second series win in a row? The tweet below says it all.
Oh and one more thing, it tied the worst road trip in franchise history going back through all its history, to the inaugural season of 1883. I remember it well. 😉
They will also tie another dubious record below.
For the above reasons I will not bore you with recaps of the four Ls this week, except to give one play that is a perfect example of the bad things that happen to bad teams.
In Thursday’s get-away matinee against the Colorado Rockies, the team had what could be called a rally down just 3-1 in the top of the 4th. After a Dylan Cozens one out 2B, Scott Kingery hit a ball just out of reach of Rockies LF David Dahl. It was never deep enough, even if caught by Dahl, for Cozens to tag up, but Dylan never got far enough off of second to even score on the eventual double. It should have made the score 3-2, but a line out and a K later, the rally fizzled.
This happened in the only game that was close all week, as the score ended 5-3, so you can just imagine the bad stuff the happened in all the blowouts 10-1, 10-3, 14-0.
Anyway, it would be easy to get all mad and start throwing blame around, it seems most are laying this on Manager Gabe Kapler, but I am not going to go there at this time. I need few weeks to look back at how all this came about and in my ICYMI Monday posts which will start in November after the world series, I will be in a better frame of mind to pass the buck around – it really belongs to just about everybody from top to bottom.
If there is any news of great import between now and then, I will make a post or two on it. I don’t expect much to happen until free agency as they have already announced that all the coaches would be offered the same positions next season
Meanwhile I have one more game on my season plan tonight, and hopefully my 10-5 record will bring the team some luck.
