Avalanche slide past Flyers 5-2

In game 2 of 82, the Flyers did not have the same result as game one despite a similar start.

Christian Folin replaced Radko Gudas in the lineup, and Calvin Pickard, donning number 33, assumed the backup role after being claimed off waivers from Toronto.

Like Thursday, the Flyers fell down a goal early, when 95 seconds after puck drop, Colin Wilson beat Brian Elliott.

And, like Thursday, the Flyers tied it soon after, with a Sean Couturier goal. However, after that, the similarities ended.

Late in the first period, James van Riemsdyk would be hit by a puck during an Avs clearing attempt, he’d leave the game and not return with a lower body injury. The Avs would score and take a 2-1 lead to intermission.

The lone Flyers highlight of the second and third frames was Misha Vororbyev scoring his first NHL goal into an empty net after a huge communication error between Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov and a defender led to the two players colliding and the puck trickling to Vorobyev who buried it in the vacated cage.

The rest of the scoring was all Colorado. Gabriel Landeskog picked up a goal on a deflection in front, the Flyers challenged for potential goalie interference but the call was upheld. Colin Wilson picked up his second goal on a late powerplay and Nathan McKinnon hit the empty net to seal it.

The Flyers dropped the game 5-2.

They next play the home opener Tuesday against San Jose.
