Two teammates from Double-A Reading Fightin Phils will be showing off the Pinstripes and representing the Philadelphia Phillies organization at the 2016 Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game.
Although the two won’t be on the same team at the game, it is a tremendous experience for both.
Phillies 10th best prospect, outfielder Dylan Cozens will be on the U.S. roster while righty Ricardo Pinto, ranked No. 22, will be on the World Team
Dylan Cozens will represent the Phillies on the US team at the 2016 Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game.
“A friend of mine, Pat Kelly, managed [Cozens] in Puerto Rico this past winter and he sent me a text and told me to pay attention to him,” Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said. “He said, ‘Pete, I don’t know if you know this guy Cozens, but he’s going to be a stud.’ I kind of paid attention to the point where I knew he was in Minor League camp and I requested him when we needed an extra outfielder for a [Spring Training] game just to see him.”
Cozens has displayed power all season for Reading, and Mackanin says he must of hit 10 home runs during batting practice during that Spring Training practice. Cozens is already at 20 home runs this season, hitting his most recent on Monday while driving in 60 runs. A high stat that we don’t want to see is the 99 strike outs he has also acquired.
“He’s really a physical specimen and I know he’s got a high ceiling,” Mackanin said.
Ricardo Pinto will play for the World Team at the 2016 Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game.
Pinto started in Class A ball in 2015 and was the recipient of the teams’ Minor League pitcher of the year honors last season. This year, he stands at 3-3 with a 4.32 ERA in 85 1/3 innings, while striking out 59 batters and walking 24.
The Game will be held at Petco Park in San Diego on Sunday, July 10.
