Ben Simmons got a Philly welcome from The Roots on Fallon

Yesterday, news broke that LSU forward Ben Simmons had worked out for the Philadelphia 76ers (the only team to get such a workout), while reports that the Sixers had told Simmons he will be their selection first overall in tomorrow’s NBA Draft received a “no comment” from the team. With the writing on the wall for Philadelphia to draft the 19 year old Aussie, Simmons made an appearance last night on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

As Simmons entered, Fallon’s Philly-born house band The Roots played and sang the countdown portion of the “Here Come the Sixers” anthem. The Roots (Kamal Gray, according to Fallon) also arranged to present Simmons with a cheesesteak from Dalessandro’s – a far superior selection than the tourist-bait dreck found on 9th and Passyunk. After confessing that he had eaten a cheesesteak, but never a Philly cheesesteak, Simmons takes one bite and declares “I could live in Philly.”

Simmons also discusses growing up in Australia and taking advice from LeBron James – check out the video below.

Simmons seems onboard with Philadelphia, and good looking out by The Roots for a proper welcome, even from New York.
