It’s another Temple Throw-Forward Thursdy as the Saturday Night lights of Lincoln Financial Field illuminate the Temple Owls (5-0, 2-0) hosting the Central Florida Knights (0-6,0-2) for another American Athletic Conference tilt. Temple is coming off their drubbing of the Tulane Green Wave (TEMPLE OWLS DEFENSE KEYS 49-10 WIN OVER TULANE GREEN WAVE), while UCF lost their  last game @ home to UConn, 13-40.

UCF has been fighting the injury bug w/ no less than 33 games lost by starters or projected starters so they have a lot of inexperience. Out of the 15 players starting their 1st collegiate games, 8 are wide receivers who started the season w/o a catch.  They are lead by a Jr. QB Justin Holman (50-86 passing, 504 yards, 3 TD, 3 INT) but w/ a core of FR WRs including Quan Smith (20 receptions, 276 yards, 2 TDs), and another Frosh leading rusher Taj McGowan (130 yards rushing, 50 rushes), they will be hard pressed to do much against Temple’s #13 ranked scoring defense allowing only 14.4 ppg, led by NCAA active leading tackler Tyler Matakevich looking for # 400 w/ his next stop.
Temple needs to keep it’s prolific offense (see notes below) going w/ QB P.      J.        Walker looking to spread it around and leading rusher Jahad Thomas continuing to shine in the backfield and on special teams.

W/ a road game @ AAC East rival, East Carolina and then a much anticipated sold out return home against Notre Dame looming, can you say “Trap Game” boys and girls? Hopefully Temple will take last years meeting w/ UCF – a 34-14 loss in their 1st game @ UCF – as motivation enough to keep that from happening.

Notes:

A win would make Temple Bowl eligible and keep pace w/ the ’74 team that also started 6-0

The Owls have 13 Floridians on the roster, third-highest of any state after Pa and NJ.

Temple has scored in every quarter this season except for the 1st quarter against Penn State, while at the same time have allowed points in only 9 out of 20 qtrs.
