The Flyers stormed heavily out of the gate against the Islanders. Just 4:30 into the game, Dale Weise popped a Sean Couturier pass over the pads of Thomas Greiss to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. At the 5:49 mark, Couturier continued showing that he is an offensive presence adding a goal on a rebound of a Brandon Manning shot. Brayden Schenn had the secondary helper on both goals. At 8:06 Radko Gudas bombed a point shot, with Weise and Couturier drawing the assists. The Islanders challenged the goal, but it seemed that it was more about giving Jaroslav Halak a chance to stretch before making the switch in net.
Travis Hamonic then decided that asking Dale Weise to dance was preferable to playing hockey and each were given 5 minute majors for the affair. Weise set a record for fastest Gordie Howe Hat Trick on the tilt. Less than a minute after the fight, Jordan Weal made it 4-0 popping in his own rebound. Later in the period Wayne Simmonds would add a goal and a fight giving the Flyers two Gordie Howe Hat Tricks in the first period.
Simmonds goal saw him take a Gostisbehere slap shot directly off his knee, he did however play the balance of the game.
The Islanders dominated the second period outshooting the Flyers 22-3 in the period with Cal Clutterbuck scoring a goal. A scrum at the end of the period saw Clutterbuck, Casey Cizikas, Gudas and Weise all nab 2 minute minors.
Jason Chimera scored early in the third to make it 5-2, then he fought Brandon Manning marking the third official fight of the game. Andrew Ladd made it 5-3 with a shot that trickled off the back of Steve Mason and into the net.
However, Valtteri Filppula hit the empty net and the Flyers were able to escape with a 6-3 win even as their playoff hopes begin to get slimmer and slimmer. Also late in the third, the Islanders tried to goad Wayne Simmonds into a fight and he made some fun hand gestures at the Islanders.
