Alright, so the Flyers are 6 games from finishing out the regular season and watching the playoffs at home. After an up-and-down season, they were mathematically eliminated this past weekend after a Boston Bruins win.

Fortunately, games like this make you forget about the Flyers’ fate for just a few minutes and just enjoy what is happening on the ice.

After Sidney Crosby fittingly started the game by scoring his 300th career goal, the Flyers responded with four unanswered goals and walked out of Pittsburgh with a 4-1 victory. Brayden Schenn scored two goals, including the game winner in the second period. Steve Mason was solid and answered mostly test, finishing the game with 24 saves on 25 shots.

This was fun. The Flyers have traditionally owned the Penguins at Consol Energy Center, and tonight was no exception. The Flyers looked like a team that was chasing a playoff spot. They did a sound job controlling puck possession for most of the night and especially during the second period. Pittsburgh’s most favoritest player Steve Downie took two questionable penalties, one of which led to a goal. You could sense the Pittsburgh crowd growing restless as the game went on. This was thoroughly enjoyable.

OBSERVATIONS

-The first line looked like the first line tonight. From the first shift, Giroux, Voracek and Raffl were creating quality chances and spending time in the Pittsburgh zone.

-Pittsburgh was missing a couple key players in Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin, who was a late scratch. Either way, it’s difficult to use injuries as an excuse for the Penguins when the Flyers are missing several regulars in the lineup themselves.

-Steve Downie taking two stupid penalties really was a lot of fun. It made me laugh. Pittsburgh has fallen in love with Downie this season, and lmao at that.

-The Flyers official twitter account owned a Penguins fan during the first intermission and it was glorious.

-If the Flyers can beat the Penguins on Sunday, they will finish off the first regular season sweep since 1983-84

5 games left in the regular season. Lets lose goddamned all of them except for Easter Sunday. Go Flyers.
