The Flyers stepped up and came from behind after an early 1-0 deficit to beat the Rangers 5-2.
Jesper Fast scored early on a deflection of his own shot that Carter Hart didn’t handle cleanly to give the Rangers an early 1-0 lead.
Late in the first, Sean Couturier scored his 20th goal of the season tapping in a feed from Jake Voracek in front of the net. Voracek had 4 assists on the night.
During the first intermission, the Rangers announced Chris Kreider would be out for the game due to a broken foot. He had left the ice after blocking a shot from Phil Myers during the first.
Midway through the second, James van Riemsdyk popped in a rebound from a Nicolas Aube-Kubel slap shot to give the Flyers the lead. Two minutes later, Claude Giroux added to it with quick shot from a pass from Couturier.
Giroux scored again early in the third, while Kevin Hayes picked up a late goal to finish off the Rangers. Late in the final minute, Brett Howden got a goal to complete the 5-2 final score.
Phil Myers had a strong game defensively while newcomer Derek Grant was also noticeable in a good way for the Flyers.
The two teams got ornery, with Ryan Lindgren challenging Scott Laughton to a fight in the waning minutes.
These teams play again Sunday at Madison Square Garden.
