The Flyers and Vegas Golden Knights played almost 59 minutes of scoreless hockey. Then, with 85 seconds left, Cody Eakin beat Brian Elliott to give the Knights 1-0 win.
After the late goal, Dave Hakstol used his timeout in an attempt to draw up a scoring play, and while the Flyers had some good looks in the final seconds, the clock ran out before they could bury one into the net.
Marc-Andre Fleury had an answer for every shot thrown at him, including spectacular saves on Claude Giroux, Jordan Weal and even Jori Lehtera. Brian Elliott played well on the other end, with his only whiff coming on the Eakin goal.
During the second period, Scott Laughton left injured after wiping out during a short handed scoring chance, however he did return to the game.
Oskar Lindblom was boarded by Brayden McNabb in the third period and did not return. Dale Weise earned a cheer for trucking him with a big hit a few shifts later.
Ultimately, between outshooting Vegas 26-21 and getting a solid performance out of Elliott, the only reason the Flyers lost was that Marc-Andre Fleury played an absolutely perfect game in net for Vegas.
The Flyers next play on October 16, at home against the Florida Panthers.
