In a weekend of Philly vs Dallas sports, the Flyers dropped a 4-1 decision to the Stars.
Sean Couturier got the scoring started early against the struggling Stars scoring just 43 seconds into the game capping off an electric passing play that saw Travis Konecny find him after taking a pass from Claude Giroux.
The Starts scored the next 3 goals, with Roope Hintz, Esa Lindell (on the powerplay) and Corey Perry all beating Carter Hart. Miro Heiskanen added an empty net goal to ice the game.
The Flyers dominated the possession battle yet again, outshooting Dallas 39-16, going 27-5 over periods 2 and 3. However, Ben Bishop was never truly tested and kept the Flyers off the board.
The once vaunted and consistently dangerous Flyers powerplay looked lost with the changes made by the current coaching staff. Putting Giroux on the right side with Voracek on the left leaves the team no room for creative passing or one time options. Given the results of previous years, where at least chances, if not goals, were consistent, this is a major step back. It’s unsure what Alain Vigneault and his staff are going for with the look, but the formation, not the personnel need to change fast.
Carter Hart is showing he’s probably human, but at age 21, that’s okay for now. That said, it may be beneficial to alternate games with Brian Elliott for a bit just to keep him from losing too much confidence.
The Flyers host the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday October 21.
