Flyers Drop First Post Ron Hextall Era Game to Sens 4-3

With no GM, the Flyers started off their first game since the firing of Ron Hextall with a 4-3 loss against Ottawa.

The Flyers game out with more jump in their step and were visually better early on. Travis Konecny opened the scoring with a one time blast from Claude Giroux who out waited the Senators defenders on an odd man rush sprung from an Ivan Provorov play.

Less than a minute after the goal, Dale Weise leveled Ben Harpur into the Senators bench with a big check, Harpur took exception and two dropped the gloves for the Flyers third fight of the season. All of the fights have occurred in the last week.

Ottawa tied the game soon after the fight as Thomas Chabot notched a goal beating Anthony Stolarz on a deflection off Oskar Lindblom.

The second period was all Flyers as Jake Voracek scored his 6th goal of the season on a delayed Ottawa penalty. Radko Gudas bombed a shot past Mike McKenna to make it 3-1.

However, the Flyers didn’t fly in the third period. Brady Tkachuk notched 2 goals and Matt Duchene pasted home the game winner to send the Flyers to another defeat.

Anthony Stolarz stopped 20 of 24 shots in the loss. Michael Raffl returned from injury. Andrew MacDonald drew in for Folin. Lehtera and Goulbourne were the other scratches.

On another note: tonight was Hockey Fights Cancer night. As a reminder, we’d like to give a quick plug for an American Cancer Society Bike-A-Thon that  gives everyone a chance to donate.
