The Flyers headed into the Holiday Break with 5-1 win over the Rangers.
The first period had no scoring.
The second period saw both teams get a goal. Jesper Fast scored shorthanded for the Rangers. With 1.7 seconds left in the period, Travis Sanheim scored with 1.7 seconds left to tie it up.
The third period was all Flyers.
Kevin Hayes scored 2 goals in the period against his former team, while Sanheim added another to make it 4-1. Then, in the closing minutes Nicolas Aube-Kubel scored his first NHL goal to make it 5-1.
By virtue of the win, the Flyers leapt past Carolina and Pittsburgh to third in the Metropolitan Division.
Carter Hart stopped 34 of 35 shots. Justin Braun and JVR each added a pair of assists.
The Flyers next play Saturday night in San Jose as they start their annual west coast swing after the holidays.
