Josh Bailey scored an overtime goal to send the Flyers to Thanksgiving with a 4-3 Overtime loss in Brooklyn.
On the eve of the American Thanksgiving, the Flyers visited Brooklyn to take on the Islanders at Barclay’s Center.
For the struggling Flyers, 0-3-2 in their last five games, reinforcements from the farm arrived as defender Sam Morin, season debut, and Forward Danick Martel, NHL debut, were recalled and dressed for the game.
Sean Couturier was denied by Islander’s goalie Thomas Greiss on a very early scoring chance that required video review to confirm that the puck never entered the net.
Just over six minutes into the game, Taylor Leier scored his first goal of the season on a deflection of a Travis Sanheim shot. Scott Laughton drew the other assist.
Danick Martel, in his debut, had several chances, he’d finish the night with three shots.
Late in the period, with Shayne Gostisbehere off for tripping, Matt Barzal of New York tied the game at one as the Flyers penalty kill continues to struggle.
With the game tied at 1, Michael Raffl hit the post on a breakaway, however, unlike so many other chances of his, the post was his friend as the puck bounced off the post and then the skate of Greiss before slowly sliding over the goal line for a good hockey goal.
The Islanders would score two goals to take a 3-2 lead as Johnny Boychuk scored a goal while the Islanders had a two man advantage as Ivan Provorov and Sam Morin both sat in the box.
Jake Voracek tied the game later in the period with a powerplay tally as he scored on a blind feed from Wayne Simmonds.
The third period saw no goals even as the Flyers had a late period flurry. Josh Bailey won the game in overtime.
The Flyers play their Black Friday home game against the Islanders to complete the home and home at 4pm.
