The Flyers announced via Twitter today that they have agreed to a contract with 32 year old Russian defenseman Yevgeny Medvedev. Medvedev is a seven year veteran of the KHL, playing all of his seasons for Ak Bars Kazan.

Below is a brief description of his playing style from eliteprospects.com, followed by his career statistics.

A large, yet very mobile and smooth skating defenseman. Medvedev sees the ice well and has good hockey sense. He can pass really well, but also possesses a hard shot. Could play a more physical and aggressive game given his size

Given the current state of the Flyers defense, Medvedev will certainly be in the mix to grab a roster spot out of camp. He is coming off of a 16 point season (43 games) in the second best league in the world, and appears to be the mobile type of defenseman that new coach Dave Hakstol is partial to. Also, here he is owning a goaltender, so enjoy that.

Terms of the contract have not yet been announced. We will have more on Medvedev later today!
