The Flyers announced at noon today that they had made yet another roster move, placing forwards Chris Porter and Colin McDonald on waivers for the purpose of sending them to Lehigh Valley. The move isn’t much of a surprise for either player. It looked for a bit like Porter would have a chance at being on the roster as a 13th forward, but he’s definitely a guy who belongs in the AHL.
For Scott Laughton, things are looking pretty good. The Flyers roster currently stands at 24, and they are still carrying 8 defensemen on the roster. All indications at this point are that Laughton will be on the opening night roster as Ron Hextall continues to try and figure out the defense.
Here are the players who remain on the roster:
FORWARDS (14): Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Sean Couturier, Sam Gagner, Claude Giroux, Scott Laughton, Vincent Lecavalier, Michael Raffl, Matt Read, Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds, RJ Umberger, Chris Vandevelde, Jakub Voracek, Ryan White
“DEFENSEMEN” (8): Michael Del Zotto, Radko Gudas, Andrew MacDonald, Brandon Manning, Yevgeni Medvedev, Luke Schenn, Nick Schultz, Mart Streit
GOALTENDERS (2): Steve Mason, Michal Neuvirth
At some point before opening night, Hextall will need to move or cut one more player. It certainly sounds like Hextall is working to try and reach the 23 player roster limit via trade if he can. With one cut to go, however, it’s looking like Scott Laughton has a decent chance at being on the ice when the Flyers open their season in less than two weeks.
