It may have been more satisfying if the Ottawa Senators had managed to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins a few nights before. If the Senators had won their game, then the Penguins would have been sitting outside of the playoffs along with us and Penguins fans would probably explode trying to think of new ways to insult Flyers fans that didn’t include “we’re in the playoffs”. The Penguins made it in by one point and Saturday’s game against the Senators truly meant nothing.

Matt Read scored the only Flyers goal in the second period while Steve Mason saved 19 of 22 shots. The Flyers did manage to help someone out in their loss, Mark Stone Ottawa rookie had two points in the game (a goal and an assist) to put him ahead of Johnny Gaudreau for highest scoring rookie.

Now that the season is over, some players took their chance to tell the media what they really thought about themselves and about Craig Berube. No one was more vocal than Vincent Lecavalier who point blank stated that he does not want to play another game in Philadelphia if Craig Berube is still the coach.

“I still believe in myself,” Lecavalier told media. “I still think I can bring a lot to the team, more than not playing and sitting on the bench. To produce, I think you need a little bit of time on the ice and good opportunities, and I didn’t feel that I really got that this year at times.”

Sean Couturier also made it clear that he doesn’t want to spend his whole career as the defensive specialist shut down guy. Berube went on to criticize Couturier saying that he was “making excuses” for his lack of offensive production and then tried to compare Couturier to Patrice Bergeron. With his ridiculous comments during his exit interview, most fans believed that the end was near for Berube, we just had to wait until Wednesday for Hextall’s decision…

Fans waited excitedly for two pm on Wednesday when most believed Flyers General Manager Ron Hextall would tell us that Craig Berube was being fired. Unfortunately, we were given more non-committal answers.

“He’s our head coach and if something changes I’ll let you guys know, … At this point in the process … we’re going to evaluate everything, as I said, and at this point the decision hasn’t been made.”
