Flyers Week in Photos: 2/7-2/13

The Flyers have been on a roll lately, getting points out of their last seven games. This uncharacteristic points streak has led many fans to believe that they Flyers may, possibly, kinda, sorta have a small, tiny chance of getting into a playoff spot. With the Flyers eight points out of a wildcard spot that’s still going to be hard to do, but hey, watching them win for a change is pretty fun.

The Phantoms managed their first win in Hershey’s home arena this season with an overtime goal from Kevin Goumas. The Bears came back from multiple one-goal deficits to force overtime, but the Phantoms overtime hot streak continued. Going into Sunday night’s game, the Phantoms had won their last four overtime games.

Considered one of the better defensive games of the Flyers season, Sunday’s game against the Capitals was not what we’re used to seeing. The Flyers held the Capitals to their lowest number of shots on goal since a game in the 2011 season. The biggest headline of this game, however, was the loss of starting goaltender Steve Mason. During a TV timeout in the second period, mason went to stretch and his knee locked up. Mason couldn’t even walk himself off the ice, and Ray Emery went in to replace him.

Since the Flyers usual call-up goalie, Rob Zepp was also injured, the Flyers called up Phantoms goalie Anthony Stolarz. Hextall admitted that he doesn’t thing that Stolarz is NHL ready so he probably won’t see any ice time unless Emery has a major injury.

With Stolarz being loaned to the Flyers, the Phantoms have loaned Martin Ouellette from the Flyers East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) affiliate, the Reading Royals. Over his four stints with the Phantoms Ouellette has 3-2 record, 2.55 goals-against average and .911 save percentage in six games with Lehigh Valley.

Tuesday’s game against the Canadiens started good enough. The Flyers managed to take the lead extremely early on thanks to Matt Read breaking his 26 game scoring drought. The rest of the game, the Flyers got progressively worse until a complete breakdown in front of Emery in the 3rd period allowed the Canadiens to tie the game. In the overtime, Vincent Lecavalier started to head off the ice when Michael Del Zotto tried to give him a long pass, Lecavalier didn’t see the pass and the Canadiens got an offensive rush that lead to the game winner.
