St. Louis opened up the scoring early on in the second period. After a faceoff win the Flyers failed to maintain any structure as four players get drawn to the puck carrier behind the net. With Manning and Bellemare chasing the puck carrier the St. Louis goal scorer is left alone in outside the paint for an easy goal.
Much like St. Louis’ goal, it didn’t take the Flyers long to score after an offensive zone draw. Brayden Schenn gathers the puck after Giroux wins the faceoff and throws it towards the net. Raffl pushes off of Pietrangelo and sneaks in through the top of the paint to get in perfect position for the tip in.
This play leading to this goal actually starts back in the neutral zone. As St. Louis tries to transition, Couturier and Read are applying pressure right at the blue line. Couturier deflects the Blues’ pass attempt that bounces right to Read . The Flyers enter the zone with control and get their cycle game started. Some nice work along the boards by Wayne Simmonds after recovering a rebound helps keep play alive which eventually sees Read get his fifth goal of the season.
Claude Giroux…..I mean, do I really need to say anymore?
St. Louis drew within one after scoring on the power play. The Flyers were generally in good position until the quick one-two pass at the point. Vandevelde gets caught too close to center ice which forces Del Zotto to jump up a bit to try and take away the shooting lane. Backes is left alone in front and notches the easy power play goal.
Ryan White added an empty net goal but who really wants to see a gif of that? The Flyers are back in action tomorrow night against the Dallas Stars.
