Here Comes NAK

With a slow start and calls to fire Dave Hakstol, the Flyers organization started making moves in an attempt to salvage the season.

Misha Vorobyev, who had 1 goal and 1 assist in 7 games was sent back to the Phantoms, after being healthy scratched for several games, before drawing in during the 6-1 loss to NYI. Replacing him on the west coast road swing is Nicolas Aube-Kubel, who has 3 goals and 4 assists in eight games with the Phantoms.

We’ve projected with NAK could do in the past, but since he’s coming up today, let’s revisit the calculations using his numbers from last season and this season combined.

Current statistics as of 2018-10-28 via HockeyDB

Given the 2017-18 and 2018-19 numbers, NAK had 53 points in 90 games combined regular season and playoffs.

With the AHL translation factor sitting at .47, we can work through the following calculations.

NAK had .5888 points per game in the AHL, which translate to .2768 points per game in the AHL or 23 points per 82 games in the NHL.

As a Right Wing, 23 points is a high end 3rd line right wing, so given the fact he’s replacing Vorobyev, it’s a matter of hoping that Aube-Kubel lives up to the projections and that he does so without drawing the ire of Dave Hakstol and his impatience of rookies.

THe Flyers also recalled Tyrell Goulbourne and placed Corban Knight on IR with an upper body injury. Goulbourne isn’t up to do more than be an energy, possibly enforcing, 4th line player.
