The 76ers have been a very uneventful team on the court, but have been the talk of the city off the court. Between the rumors, draft, health updates, and Sam Hinkie; the Sixers have been must see drama off the court. Everyone in Philadelphia wants to be the GM of this team, conspiracy theories float around, draft strategies, and trade rumors flood local sports talk radio, but finally in July there was a must watch basketball game starring the newest Sixer, Jahlil Okafor.

Okafor looked great in his first game as a 76er, showing impressive footwork and composure. He started out rocky in the first half only making 3 out of 11 shot attempts, but shined in the 2nd half and ended the game with 18 points. He only played 28 minutes put had a stat-line of 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks, proving to be the obvious star of the show.

Despite Okafor’s performance, the 76ers lost to the Spurs 74-71. Winning or losing was very notably not what Philadelphia 76ers fans cared about, they cared about seeing a healthy first round pick playing well in Sixers uniform. He was making jump shots and creating lanes to drive in as well as shutting the Spurs down on Defense.

Despite a few moment in which he looked tired and a slow first half, Okafor looks like the real deal. Although I spoke highly of D’Angelo Russell, Okafor is playing with a chip on his shoulder because he believed he’d be the number one overall pick and I like what I’m seeing. Okafor looks great in number 8, can’t wait to see what this young man can do in the regular season.
