It was an honest enough comment from Malcolm Jenkins on 97.5 The Fanatic, shortly after Chip Kelly’s press conference.
Despite the fact that the Eagles had just signed running back Ryan Mathews to a three-year deal for $11.5 million, the Birds are apparently hot on the heels for DeMarco Murray. The NFL’s leading rusher remains at a contract impasse with Cowboys, and appears on the verge of leaving Dallas, whether that is with the Eagles or not.
UPDATE: However, the Eagles appear to now be the frontrunners in the DeMarco Murray sweepstakes. ESPN’s Chris Mortenson confirmed a report about Murray reaching out to Chip Kelly personally.
Both parties definitely have some mutual interest in each other. However, it is clear that Chip Kelly is not willing to overpay anyone.
DeMarco Murray is coming off his best season in the league, and is certainly looking to cash in. Nothing is official yet, but it certainly looks like at the end of the day, Murray will remain in the NFC East.
