Match Preview: LA Galaxy @ Philadelphia Union 05/11/16

The Philadelphia Union (4-3-1, 3rd place Eastern Conference) look to bounce back from a disappointing 1-1 draw to the San Jose Earthquakes as they finish their home stand by hosting the LA Galaxy (5-1-3; 2nd place West) on Wednesday 5/11/16 @ 7:00 PM on CSN. The Galaxy will be working on short rest coming off of a Mother’s Day match-up at home where they beat the New England Revolution 4-2. They now have an undefeated streak of 7 games. Their only meeting last season was a 5-1 pasting by the Galaxy in LA on 6/20/15. C.J.  Sapong scored the lone Union goal in the 58′. All-time the Union are just 1-6-1 VS LA, and  0-2-1 at home.

The U will have to watch for Galaxy Captain F Robbie Keane, who in his  first appearance since March had two tap-ins on Sunday, and F Giovani dos Santos, who also scored on Sunday, as well as the lone goal in a draw w/ Sporting KC the game before. It was his fourth consecutive game with a goal and now has five goals (leading LA) and three assists in six appearances this season.

The Union look to get CB Ken Tribbett back on the field this week after missing the last three games with a sprained right ankle. “He said cutting and jumping are fine,” Jim Curtin said. “It’s strange, but when he has to lock his ankle and strike a long pass, is when he feels it a bit.” Rookie Josh Yaro had replaced him and played well until the failed clearance that along w/loose defensive play by the whole team led to the tying goal against San Jose. “I think in three games, Josh has come in and done really well,” Curtin said. “. . .You could have a strong 89 minutes, and if you miss-clear one or lose your man on a free kick, then that is what everybody remembers.” Curtin has yet to say for sure which player will start, only at the Monday press conference that Tribbett will be available for selection on Wednesday.

Coming back for the Union as well is Fabinho, who is coming off of a suspension for yellow card accumulation.

Projected first XI: Blake; Fabinho, Marquez, Yaro, Rosenberry; Creavalle, Nogueira; Pontius, Barnetta, Le Toux; Sapong

Fearless Prediction: At 1st glance I was ready to say 3-2 Galaxy, but seeing how LA had to hold on that last game, and on 3 days rest, I will say a 2-2 draw, keeping at least the undefeated streak at home alive.
