Match Preview: Philadelphia Union & LA Galaxy 10:30 PM EDT PHL17

The Philadelphia Union (3-2-1, 10 Pts, 4th Place Eastern Conference), head out west to face their second Western Conference team in a row in LA Galaxy (4-1-0, 12 Pts, 3rd Place).

Union/LA Galaxy Series History:

The U have only won one match in 11 meetings, 2-1 in 2012. There have been three draws. The last outing was a 3-1 loss at Talen Energy Stadium back on 7/21/18.

In LA the Galaxy have a 4-1-1 advantage scoring 14 goals to the Unions 5.

Last Time Out:

Both teams are looking for their fourth straight victory. The Union pulled one out, 2-1, scoring late and in stoppage time at home against FC Dallas. LA shut out Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2-0 on the road.

LA Galaxy Notes:

Obviously F Zlatan Ibrahimovic (4G) is the man most people are watching, but LA D Daniel Steres (2G) who scored the other goal for them last week is a force on both ends of the pitch. Ex Union MF Chris Pontius also has a goal this season.

Union dues:

For the first time in awhile the Union have almost a full squad for selection. The only one on the injury list is F Sergio Santos.

Head Coach Jim Curtin has his hands full making out a lineup this week. MF Jamiro Monteiro who joined the team late has yet to make a start, but the other MF’s have been playing well. Something will have to give.

Phearless Phorecast:

Both teams are on a roll, and have little to no injury or suspension issues, so no advantages there. They each last played a week ago so are rested.

For those reasons, the long trip to the West Coast for the U may be the deciding factor, so I am going to call this one, 2-1 LA Galaxy.
