Match Preview: Philadelphia Union @ Real Salt Lake 07/13/19 10:00 PM Live Well Network ESPN+

The Philadelphia Union (10-5-6, 36 Pts, 1st Place Eastern Conference) take one of those dreaded road trips out west to play Real Salt Lake (8-9-2, 26 Pts, 8th Place Western Conference) in Sandy, Utah.

Union/Real Salt Lake Series History:

The Union have not fared well against RSL, 1-4-6 all time, 0-3-2 in Utah. The last match though, was a 4-1 W on 5/19/18 at Talen Energy Stadium.

Last Time Out:

Real Salt Lake’s last outing was a late game 1-Nil loss at the San Jose Earthquakes. On the other hand RSL has won four in a row at home.

The Union had a disappointing, but also somewhat redemptive draw at home against Orlando City SC as Kacper Przybylko‘s 90’ equalizer saved them from a terrible loss.

Real Salt Lake Notes:

RSL is only one point below the red line, though with one more game played than Houston Dynamo.

Last week GK Nick Rimando (6-7-2, 4 SO) became the first MLS player to appear in 500 regular season matches. In his 20 yrs, 12 with Real Salt Lake, he also owns the records for matches started, minutes played, GK Ws, saves, and clean sheets.

Real will be missing D Nedum Onuoha who had started every match, and F Sam Johnson who has yet to appear in an MLS match.

Union Dues:

Yes, the latest Union acquisition F Andrew Wooten will be available for selection. He may not yet be in playing shape so it is expected he could be a late game sub, at best. Some are speculating a possible 3 F attack at some point, matched up with Kacper, Fafa Picault

Three of the U’s stouter defenders M Alejandro Bedoya, and Ds Jack Elliott, and Kai Wagner, have to be careful as they are a Yellow  Card away from a suspension.

The Union will be streaming this match at since the Live Well Network is not the most available channel out there.

Phearless Phorecast:

As noted above a W can put RSL into a playoff spot, so that motivation adds on to their great home record. The Union are having their first full week off since the International break, but have to make that trek out to Utah. I am going to call this a 2-1 Real Salt Lake W. If the U can wrangle a draw out of this, it would be a victory.
