The biggest match of the Union’s year will take place in Chester on Saturday.
The second place Union (14-6-8, 48 points) take on first place Atlanta United FC (15-3-9, 48 points) in a true six-pointer that could decide the East.
The Union are coming off of a 3-1 win against D.C. United last weekend. Atlanta most recently won the Open Cup this Tuesday against Minnesota United.
The two sides met in Atlanta on March 17th where the Union and Atlanta split the points. In retrospect, the match was perhaps a harbinger of things to come for the Union’s success this year.
Atlanta will be without midfielder Ezequiel Barco, who suffered a muscle injury in the Open Cup final. For the Union, midfielder Warren Creavalle (left hamstring strain) and backup goalkeeper Matt Freese (right ankle sprain) are both questionable.
Expect the Union to go into full attack mode against an Atlanta team who can score but whose outside backs are suspect. This should be an entertaining one.
Honestly, anything can happen here. The Union could win 3-1. Atlanta could win 3-1. For our guess, we’ll say…
Union 3 – Atlanta 2
