Only a day after Penn State football’s beatdown at the hands of Michigan State, coach James Franklin announced that offensive coordinator John Donovan would be relieved of his duties, effective immediately.

The move doesn’t come as a huge surprise, as PSU ranked 105th in total offense this year and 107th in 2014, the first year of the Franklin/Donovan combo. Although fans had become increasingly vocal in their displeasure with the offensive coordinator, Franklin had nothing but kind (and politically correct) words for the coach that has been with him since he started his head coaching career at Vanderbilt.

“I have tremendous respect for John and the work he has put in over the last five years,” Franklin said. “I wish him and his family nothing but the best in the future.”

Franklin will begin a national search for Donovan’s replacement immediately.
