This will be an abbreviated version of Phillies ICYMI Monday, as all of us Philly Phans have had their minds on that other outdoor sports team on Pattison Ave.
More Phillies Spring Training Non-Roster invitees:
On Wednesday the team announced that eight more players have been invited to Clearwater as non-roster Invitees:
C: Edgar Cabral RHP’s: Enyel De Los Santos, Tom Eshelman, JD Hammer LHP’s: Cole Irvin, Brandon Leibrandt INF: Scott Kingery and OF: Andrew Pullin.
Phans have been clamoring for a call-up of Kingery for almost a full season now, and he could make a good run for the club with an outstanding spring, but more likely not.
We will start profiling these players in more detail as the list is finalized.
Alumnae win Ted Williams Honors:
Our old friend Charlie Manuel will receive the Ted Williams Lifetime Achievement Award from the Ted Williams Museum, at its annual Hitters Hall of Fame induction on Feb. 10 in Clearwater. As a nice touch, instead of the usual hotel, they will be holding this at Spectrum Field, home of the Clearwater Threshers, as well as Phillies spring training, calling it “A Night at the Ballpark”.
Tony Perez and Dick Allen will also be inducted into the hall that night.
They have a wall for pitchers as well, which will be renamed in honor of Roy Halladay, into which Ron Guidry and Gary Matthews’ fave J.R. Richard are being enshrined.
Btw, Manuel is a big Eagles fan. He has been recovering from long delayed hernia surgery and has been able to watch the team a lot.
“Why not the Eagles?” Manuel asked Wednesday to the Inquirer and Philly.com’s Marcus Hayes.
“I started watching them real close when they went on that nine-game winning streak,” Manuel said. “Reminded me of us. They’ve got a lot of life. A lot of energy.”
“They’re like we were in 2008. They’re a team. They play the game hard. They play right. We played right. They’re resilient,” Manuel said. “Tough.”
As Charlie would say, “Why Not Us”?
Much like last week there could be little news. If so, I will get a head start on my non-roster invitee notes, to keep me occupied in the off-week before a certain game.
But now that we know who, New England Patriots, and when Feb 4th, 6:30 PM in Minneapolis, until then I will once again leave you with:
