With some afternoon baseball the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-2.  Today’s win completed the four-game series split.

Aaron Harang continued his dominant start to the 2015 season with another win. Harang went eight innings pitched and struck out six while only giving up five hits.  His mound opponent was former Phillie Vance Worley.  Worley’s day was not as kind as he went five innings and allowed three runs, only one earned.

The Phillies saw a 4-0 lead going into the ninth inning almost disappear when the Pirates started a late inning rally against Ken Giles.  Giles gave up two runs in one-third of an inning.  Jonathan Papelbon, the Phillies new all-time saves leader, came in to record the final two outs.

The Phillies two offensive stars today were Freddy Galvis and Ryan Howard.  Galvis went 3-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base.  Howard hit his seventh home run of the season in the fifth inning off of Pirates pitcher Radhames Liz.  Howard was 3-4 at the plate.

The Arizona Diamondbacks come into town for a weekend series at Citizens Bank Park.  The first game of the series is tomorrow night with first pitch at 7:05 PM.
