6:45 P.M UPDATE:

FOX Sports Ken Rosenthal confirms that Phillies will obtain righty starter Nick Pivetta from Washington in exchange for Papelbon.

The 22 year old has posted a 21-15 record with a 3.60 ERA in three minor league seasons, but struggled in two starts with AA Harrisburg this year, going 0-2 with a 7.20 in 15 innings.

Baseball America ranked Pivetta as the Nationals #10 prospect prior to this season.

Multiple sources are now reporting that the Phillies are in the final stages of trading closer Jonathan Papelbon to the Washington Nationals.

Current rumors indicate the most likely return for Papelbon will be an AA pitcher.

Papelbon was the lone Phillies all-star selection this season, and converted a perfect 17-17 save chances with a 1.57 ERA.

Papelbon will surely be happy to be moving to a contender. Although he seemed to be well-liked by his teammates, his recent comments made it quite clear that he hoped to be traded.

“I thought I was going to come to Philadelphia and win two more rings,” he said. “The downward spiral happened. And it happened so quick. It’s almost unexplainable.

“It’s not what I signed up for, no. I signed up for a team that won 102 games.”

This post will be updated as more information becomes available.
