The Flyers will reportedly place 5 more players on waivers with the purpose of sending them to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms for the start of the season.  Chris Conner, Aaron Palushaj, Tim Brent, Davis Drewiskie and Jason LaBarbera all will shortly be heading to up to Allentown to play with the Phantoms. It has also been reported that defenseman Christian Marti will be out until mid-November after injuring his shoulder.

This leaves the Flyers roster at 29 players. Let’s take a look at who is still around.

FORWARDS: Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Nick Cousins, Sean Couturier, Sam Gagner, Claude Giroux, Scott Laughton, Vincent Lecavalier, Colin McDonald, Chris Porter, Michael Raffl, Matt Read, Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds, RJ Umberger, Chris Vandevelde, Jakub Voracek, Ryan White

DEFENSEMEN: Michael Del Zotto, Shayne Gostisbehere, Radko Gudas, Robert Hagg, Andrew MacDonald, Brandon Manning, Yevgeni Medvedev, Luke Schenn, Nick Schultz, Mart Streit

GOALTENDERS: Steve Mason, Michal Neuvirth

The Flyers will still have 6 more cuts to make before the regular season begins in roughly two weeks. Let’s take a look at who is most likely to be amongst those 6.

DEFINITE CUTS: Colin McDonald, Robert Hagg

PROBABLE CUTS: Chris Porter, Brandon Manning, Nick Cousins, Shayne Gostisnehere

ALSO ON THE HOT SEAT:  Scott Laughton, Radko Gudas

At this point, it’s certainly looking like Scott Laughton has a realistic chance at making this team. This would leave Nick Cousins as the top line center up in Allentown to start the season. Brandon Manning has been playing on the fourth defensive pairing and seems like a favorite to be the last defensemen cut (along with Shayne Gostisbehere).

We will keep you updated as the Flyers continue trimming the roster down to the final 23.
