Per a press release, the Union have acquired forward Charlie Davies from New England.
The Revs will receive targeted allocation money, general allocation money, and the Union’s first round pick in the 2018 SuperDraft.
The Union will also receive the Revs’ third round pick in the 2018 SuperDraft.
It’s no secret the Union have been looking for another forward to go along with CJ Sapong and Fabian Herbers. Davies, 30, scored 10 goals last year for the Revs; however, he has just returned to the field after receiving full treatment for liposarcoma and is a bit of a project currently.
Davies has 17 international caps for the US national team going back to 2007 through 2009, when he had 13 caps. He was involved in a serious car accident in October 2009 in Washington DC while on national team duty from which it took him over a full year to recover to match fitness.
This is not the acquisition Union fans may have wanted, but like the Chris Pontius deal, it may prove to be wildly successful. Or it could be a total failure. The key for the U now is to get their talent onto the field in a formation that works. No DP striker is coming, so they have to make due with what they have. Only time will tell if what they have is enough.
