If the Union and Flyers were movie characters, they’d both be Dante from “Clerks”.
First-place in the East? Fifth in the MLS power rankings? They’re not even supposed to be here! The Union are supposed to be buried during a rebuild. What the heck is going on?! Is this what hope feels like?!
The boys in blue share a lot in common with another certain team in town we’re watching eagerly now. The Flyers are supposed to be buried too; they certainly aren’t supposed to be in the playoffs during a rebuilding year. Both teams changed who handles the players: the Flyers hired Dave Hakstol as coach and the Union hired Earnie Stewart as sporting director (or GM, if you like). Both teams have young exciting talent blossoming before our eyes in defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere and goalkeeper Andre Blake. And now, both teams look ready to trend upward for years to come. Contrary to popular belief, it’s about to get really fun to be a fan of both teams.
Zero expectations means tons of fun. Enjoy the ride everyone!
