What Went Right: Matt Read’s OT GWG Vs NJ

What went right on Matthew Read’s OT winner against the Devils? Everything. But still, we all want to look at it again and again, right? Let’s do that.

So, here we see the Devils with possession in the Flyers’ Defensive Zone. Some unfortunate Devil is awaiting a pass in front of the net thinking he has a scoring chance developing. He is wrong. Matthew Read is watching and Matthew Read does not like scoring chances against. He intends to stop this. The poor Devil has no idea what’s about to happen to him. I’m aware he has a name, I won’t use it, Matthew Read stole that with the puck.

“Scoring Chance against? Shot against? What are these things?” – says Matthew Read probably. Matthew Read has now gained puck possession without allowing a shot against. Matthew Read is ready to transition to attack mode.

The poor Devil has fallen. He is likely down because he realizes there is no purpose to hockey, for he is dealing with Matthew Read. Speaking of Matthew Read, he and Sean Couturier are on a two on one. They have a clean controlled zone exit.

Matthew Read enters the zone with control too. It’s still a two on one. Cory Schneider is a good goalie. Perhaps he can stop Matthew Read.

Matthew Read is now at the top of the circle. Poor Andy Greene, the last defender back, in all seriousness, he’s done a great job taking away a Couturier one timer this whole time.

Matthew Read dangles slowly. In fact, it’s so slow that he likely had time for a full conversation with everyone on the ice. Matthew Read likely extolled the virtues of being ginger with Cory Schneider and Sean Couturier. Andy Greene is not ginger. He is also a Devil. He’s likely rude. Rude and not ginger.

Matthew Read dangles some more and takes a shot. The puck hits Schneider an bounces into the air. Between now and the time it crosses the line, Matthew Read has the time to sing a song about goal scoring to Cory Schneider. It likely went like this:

Hey! I just sniped you
And this is crazy
But here’s the winner, so celly with me

Author’s note: I should likely just log off after that one.

The bad joke hides the fact that I had little faith the puck would go in. Forgive me Matthew Read, live and in the moment I doubted you.

Do not doubt Matthew Read. He will score. If not Sean Couturier was there to knock in the rebound. Flyers win.

Here’s the video of the whole thing again. Please feel free to watch on loop in a nice, safe, happy place.
